We are looking for an enthusiastic person who is excited about developing The Rockfield Centre as a cultural community hub for Oban.

Creative Development Worker

Hours – 16 hours p/w, flexible but with some evening and weekend work

Duration – 6 month fixed term contract

Rate of Pay : Living wage of £8.50 per hour as a minimum (negotiable dependent on experience)

Job description:

This role will have an emphasis on working with young people to include their energy and ideas in expanding the programme of use at The Rockfield Centre. The development worker will also be involved in the various aspects of running a growing community venue.

The successful candidate will be passionate about our community, about arts, culture and heritage, and about widening access for all. They will be well organised with good IT skills and a keen eye for detail. They will be friendly, flexible and a great communicator.

Applications are invited from those with experience in community arts, arts administration, volunteer management and/or youth work. Individuals with less experience who can demonstrate an enthusiasm and aptitude for the post and the project will also be considered and will receive guidance and mentoring to develop their skills.

The successful candidate will be responsible to the Board of Directors but will receive day to day line-management/mentoring from the arts co-ordinator.


To work alongside the arts co-ordinator and volunteers to develop the programme of activity and events at The Rockfield Centre.

To support the administration of bookings and external communication required for efficient running of the Community Hut.

To develop opportunities for and relationships with the wider community, and in particular young people, and involve them in decision making regarding The Rockfield Centre programme.

To develop relationships with other organisations, particularly those working with young people, both voluntary and statutory, including education providers.

To assist with marketing and promotion, particularly online and digital.

To work with staff team and volunteers to develop the Community Hut as a hub of activity and an income generator for the Centre.
